This fall, counselling practicum students Kim Tarby and Christina James (pictured above, from left) join the NCS counselling team. The announcement comes a year after the new dedicated counselling room opened in Building B and more students continue to access the support.
Join us in welcoming Mrs. Tarby and Mrs. James! Mrs. Tarby is also a middle school student support teacher at NCS and mom of two NCS students. Mrs. James is a teacher in the school district, NCS homestay coordinator and a mom of NCS grads. They share an office on the second floor of Building B with NCS counsellors Lis Kroeker and Clifton Pinder.
The counselling program at NCS grew extensively last year. At the beginning of the 2018-19 school year, referrals to the program were made primarily by school administration. By the end of the year, though, students were bringing in their friends to talk with a counsellor.
“God works miracles to transform our hearts,” says Mr. Pinder. “Sometimes in the process He also transforms the pain of great sorrow, guilt, shame, conflict, dysfunction, or other stress into experience that serves a greater purpose. Through it all we enjoy working collaboratively with students and their families to help them trust God and His process. This year we’ll be able to do even more of that with an expanded counselling team.”
