​Nanaimo Christian School Early Care & Learning is a licensed child care program offering Preschool, Junior Kindergarten, and Out-of-School Care. Here, young children are given meaningful opportunities to learn through play and grow in faith. Our program is home to approximately 60 students across four classes, located on the NCS campus in the lower level of Building B.

 

Our approach

At NCS Early Care & Learning, our goal is to prepare each child for Kindergarten while making their first school experience fun, engaging, and full of wonder. We focus on each child’s unique strengths and support the development of social-emotional skills, laying a foundation for a lifelong love of learning.

Using a play-based learning approach, children explore and grow across physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual domains. Activities are designed to spark creativity, inspire imagination, and nurture skills in sharing, cooperation, and teamwork.
 

Faith is at the heart of all we do, helping children develop character, empathy, and a sense of wonder as they discover the world God has made.​

Preschool

Ages 3–4
Schedule: 8:30–11:30am (Mon–Thurs), 8:30am–12:00pm (Fri)

Our preschool program is rooted in an emergent curriculum, where learning grows from each child’s God-given curiosity. Educators observe children’s interests and thoughtfully design experiences that support literacy, mathematics, creativity, motor skills, and social development—all through play.

We focus on the process, not the product, encouraging children to explore, experiment, and develop a love of learning and confidence in their unique abilities.

Faith and nature are central to our program. Children spend time outdoors every day, rain or shine, discovering God’s creation while developing resilience, gratitude, and a sense of wonder.

 

Junior Kindergarten

Ages 4–5
Schedule: 11:45am–3:00pm (Mon–Thurs)

 

Junior Kindergarten builds on our preschool foundation while intentionally preparing children for the transition to Kindergarten. Educators work closely with NCS Kindergarten teachers to ensure a smooth and confident transition.

Smaller class sizes allow for individualized attention, with a strong focus on social-emotional development, independence, kindness, and empathy—helping children learn how to love and care for others as God calls us to do.

Daily outdoor learning continues in Junior Kindergarten, reinforcing stewardship of God’s creation and preparing students for the NCS Kindergarten experience, where the outdoor classroom is an integral part of learning.

How to Apply

Our registration process takes place in January for classes starting the following September. In January we start by allowing our current students' families to re-register and then we allow our current NCS families to register. After that we process any applications fitting the spaces that remain. 

Follow the steps below to submit your registration:

Step 1: Join the Waitlist
Add your child to our waitlist for every class you are interested in.

Step 2: Enrollment Invitation
When a space becomes available that matches your application, you will receive an email from Esikidz inviting you to complete your enrollment.
 

To complete enrollment, you will need:

• Your child’s Personal Health Number (Care Card)

• Immunization record (available through the BC Services Card app or BC Health Gateway)

• An up-to-date photo of your child (preferably a headshot)
   

Step 3: Confirmation & Fee

Once your paperwork has been reviewed and approved, you will receive a confirmation email. At that time, submit your enrollment fee.

Fees

We provide both regular fees and fees with the Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative (FRI), which helps make child care more affordable. FRI is not guaranteed, which is why both are listed.

​Enrollment Fee: $50 per child, non-refundable. Payable via e-transfer to accounting@ncsnanaimo.com

About FRI: The Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative helps participating licensed child care providers reduce and stabilize monthly child care fees. Families do not need to apply, and savings are passed directly to families.

Full-Day Option
If your child is 4 years old and entering Kindergarten the following year, you may combine a Preschool selection with a corresponding Junior Kindergarten selection to create a full-day experience, up to a maximum of 2.5 days per week. Please note that a 5-day-per-week option is not available.
