Students will explore living out Matthew 5:14-16, letting their God-given light shine.

This year’s theme at Nanaimo Christian School is: Shine! As we read in Matthew 5:14-16, sang in this year’s theme song “Glorious Day” and talked about in our opening assembly, we want to shine God’s light.
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16
How can we shine a light at school and outside of school? Throughout the year, we’ll explore ways to shine.
Shine at NCS is …
Every student knowing the big plans God has for them and being supported to grow into their unique gifts and who God created them to be.
Pursuing excellence in every area—academics, athletics, the arts, service, and community impact—so that the light of Christ is reflected in everything they do.
Bringing Christ’s light into places that are hurting, lonely, or overlooked.
Showing kindness when it is not expected, stepping into service when it would be easier to walk away, and speaking hope when others feel surrounded by darkness.
Staff helping the brightest sparkles sparkle even more and drawing out sparkle when it has not yet been seen.
This year, watch for ways students and staff are letting their God-given light shine … in classrooms and hallways, on the field and the stage, in acts of service, within neighbourhoods, and even in quiet moments when no one is watching.
We will shine with a beautiful light that reflects the One who made us.
