Sr Girls and Sr Boys Volleyball just wrapped up their seasons with trips to provincials

Updated: Dec 12, 2022

The girls participated in the Provincial Championships held at Cedars Christian in Prince George while the boys participated in their Provincial Championships at Duncan Christian School

Provincials for senior girls took place in Prince George, BC hosted by Cedars Christian School! The team was thankful to be able to fly as scheduled with the snowfall. Pool play involved playing the top 3 teams as we were seeded #4 going in. A highlight was beating Credo 2-0 for the first time! There was a three-way tie for second place in our pool and NCS ended up 4th with only a handful of points making the difference in the tiebreaker ratio of points won and points lost. During the playoffs, the team won against Sparwood and put up their very best volleyball against Southpointe, though they lost 1-3 in very close sets. The next game was against St. Ann’s who won in two sets. The team finished the tournament winning against Ebenezer to place 7th. In the end, our NCS team was among the best of the best, as we won against Credo, the gold winners, in pool play and were so close with Southpointe who won silver. The team played their best volleyball and demonstrated full potential at this tournament! Congratulations to Sarah Landry who was named first team all star!!

The team was coached by Pat Morley, Laura Rocha and Shane Faganello. A big thanks to this team of coaches for their passion, heart and expertise! Many parents also supported the team in various ways throughout the season with driving, food, organizing various things and always cheering the team on - thank you!!!

The boys had their provincials at Duncan Christian School. The boys played really well in pool play on Thursday, only losing to Credo who they took to a third set. They finished pool play 2nd in the B pool which put them in 6th place going into the championship bracket (this is also the place they entered the tournament).

Friday had some hard matchups but the first game they were able to pull out a win over St Ann’s with a 3-2 match win. Next they faced Cedar’s Christian who they lost 1-3 against. Saturday was the final day of the playoffs where the Boys faced Vernon Christian who they were able to beat 2-0 and then move to the 5th/6th place game against Bulkley Valley Chrisitian. The boys played hard and although it went to a 3rd set, the boys were able to win the game and claim 5th place at the Championship. A big CONGRATS to Calvin Vanderkooi who was named first team all star.

A HUGE thank you to coach Cole Libbus who took on the team this year in the head coach role after being the setter and captain last year. He led with such passion for the athletes and the game that was evident to everyone who watched. Also a big thank you to all the parents and supporters that helped support the team all year.
