Why We’re Expanding
We’re at capacity
Nanaimo Christian School is becoming known in the community as an excellent option for students and families looking for alternatives. Wait lists are happening at most grade levels. Classes are full. Our growth is being slowed only by our ability to find spaces for more students.

Buildings are past due for replacement
Our grade 3-5 modular classroom building is nearly 30 years old. The cost of repairs continues to escalate as we patch up a deteriorating portable that is 10-20 years past the end of its lifespan. Within the past five years alone, repair and replacement costs for the roof, furnaces, drainage and doors have exceeded $45,000. More than 150 students use the 7,889 sq. ft. (733 sq. m.) building.

There’s no other option for Christian education
NCS is the only Christian school in central Vancouver Island. Nanaimo isn’t a strong church-going population, but more families are seeking us out. Education is our way of drawing them into a safe and caring community, sharing about Jesus and helping them explore faith.

We want to be a light in the community
Expanding our facilities allows us to not only impact our students but also to draw people in from the community. Gym and classroom rentals bring more than 1,500 people through our doors each year. We believe that they will feel and see something different, and we hope that will lead them to explore it further.

Phase 1 -- “Dare to Equip” Expansion
Donated: $800,000
​Total cost: $9 million
Status: Completed 2008-2018
Thanks to generous donors, Phase 1 saw the construction of Building B, which provided classroom space for 250 additional students (middle school and high school wing) as well as other additions to support growing enrolment.

Phase 2 -- “Dare to Believe” Expansion
Goal: $1 million
Donated: nearly $300,000
Status: In progress since 2017

A 26,000-sq.-ft. expansion of Building B was completed in 2018 during Phase 2. The addition included classroom space, a double-sized gym, theatre stage, music room and commercial kitchen. We continue to raise funds to pay down Phase 2 debt so we can begin Phase 3.

Phase 2.5 -- “Pandemic Response” Expansion
Goal: $100,000
Donated: $100,000
Status: Completed in August 2021

A playground was already included the school's future plans, but we need it more than ever now so we fast-tracked it in our building campaign. Student enrolment has doubled since we added our last playground. Students are learning and playing outside as much as possible, something that will continue far beyond the pandemic.
Phase 2.5 - Elevated View
Phase 3 & 4 -- “Beyond Belief” Expansion
Goal: $8.6 million + $7.4 million (future plans)

We worked with board members, contractors and other experts to complete a Strategic Planning Process for Phase 3 & 4. Plans include a new elementary school facility addition to Building B, new lobby and office spaces, and the purchase of an adjacent 4-acre property.
