On September 13 the Nanaimo Christian School community came together to celebrate the grand opening and land dedication of the Holland Road Field. In spite of the rainy afternoon more than 100 students, parents, staff, board members, alumni, grandparents and supporters gathered for stories and prayers on the field and cake and games in the gym.
Donna Hais and Jenn Tonsi -- alumni and former board members -- prayed over the land and shared stories of God's provision for the school throughout the decades, stories of lives that were changed and building phases that families supported as the school has grown. Our facilities manager, Francois Brassens thanked contractors who helped with first steps of development, remarking on their generosity in offering reduced rates for their work. Volunteers who helped prep the land were also applauded.
Head of School, Mike Campbell, invited everyone to dream about how this space that God provided can become a space where students can learn about the big plans God has for them. He asked everyone to imagine how this can be a space where the school community can invite others and show hospitality to strangers with unusual kindness and be the light on the hill that is Nanaimo Christian School, in Jesus. Â
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." -- Matthew 5:14-16
As we dedicate this land to our Heavenly Father, thanking Him for His providence, we celebrate His provision in who He provided and used to get the school to where it is today. As we move forward in this exciting chapter, to God be the glory for His will has been done and will be done, on this part of His sovereign earth.
Amazing things are going to happen on this space, Lord willing!
